Paste the original text in A and the revised text in B. Line-by-line mode shows removed lines in red, added lines in green, and unchanged lines in place, with line numbers from both versions. It is useful for code snippets, configuration files, contracts, documentation revisions, and any plain text where position and exact wording matter.
Line mode is easier to scan when whole lines were added or removed, which is common in code and structured documents. Word mode highlights edits inside a sentence, which suits prose, proofreading, and short copy changes. The summary counts additions, removals, and unchanged items in either mode.
Ignore case treats uppercase and lowercase as equal. Ignore whitespace trims each line and collapses repeated spaces before comparing, while the original text remains visible. These options change the comparison, not the source, so review a sample of unchanged and changed lines before relying on a zero-difference result.
A text diff keeps order and shows where lines or words were inserted, removed, or edited. The text list comparison tool answers a different question: which items exist in both lists, regardless of order. Use the diff for revisions and the list comparison for membership checks such as subscriber exports or SKU reconciliation.
