Choose the right sort order, clean copied data, and check the sorted output before replacing the original list.

A useful list comparison starts with a clear decision, not an upload. This workflow keeps the comparison in your browser and makes the matching rules visible, so the resulting exception list can be reviewed rather than blindly acted upon.
Decide whether the entire line or a field inside it is the sort key. Sorting people by surname is different from a simple A–Z sort, and numeric identifiers are not the same as quantities.
Paste one item per line and remove any header row first. Keep the source list and note whether order itself carries meaning, such as a log sequence or a priority ranking.
Trim stray spaces and ignore case only when capitalization is not meaningful. Use numeric sorting only when the lines are actual numbers; keep leading zeroes when they are part of an identifier.
Check the first and last lines, a few ties, and the total line count. Compare the sorted output with the source before pasting it into another system.
